#Maddie2017Challenge: Week 11

Seriously this past week has been hectic. Packing, driving, moving, staying in sketchy hotels, and a whoooole slew of crazy once I actually got to Baltimore.

I’m too exhausted to post anything substantial but here’s all the photos I posted over the past week. Hopefully next week I can entertain you guys more.

#Maddie2017Challenge: Week 9

As cliché as it is, time really moves SO fast the older you get. I can’t believe we’re already nine weeks into 2017, it’s about to be March, and I’ll be starting my THIRD travel nurse contract in just two weeks!

So this past week, Aaron and I were supposed to be in Puerto Rico, but cancelled because of how sick he was feeling. I still enjoyed having time off with Aaron to just hang out at home all week, since most of the year he has maybe a weekend off here and there, and we still managed to get out and about during the week — like on a quick hike to Enchanted Rock!

#Maddie2017Challenge: Week 8

I had much bigger plans for this Monday. Aaron and I have had a flight booked to the Caribbean for months. Unfortunately, Aaron started feeling sick on Saturday, and he hasn’t gotten much better. We’re pretty sure he has the flu. He feels (and looks) like shit. I asked him this morning if he wanted to cancel our trip, since he’s been miserable all weekend and hasn’t been able to be comfortable for, like, more than an hour. Long story short, we are not on a flight to the Caribbean, Aaron has been drugged up beyond belief (in a good way) and is now laying in bed with the pup, and I’m out here binge watching That 70s Show and working on my blog.

#Maddie2017Challenge: Week 7

So to further be tinkering with the content of what I post here on Mondays, I think I’m going to just take a single photo and expand on it, instead of just trying to sum up my week altogether…

Aaron and I don’t really go to the movies very often — I’m more of a binge-13-seasons-of-a-TV-show-as-quickly-as-possible kinda girl — but my friends have talked about Split, and I’ve seen people rave about it on social media, so we went to see it.

I honestly haven’t stopped thinking about it since we saw it!

#Maddie2017Challenge: Week 5

Y’all, I’ll be real, keeping up a blog post a week has been kind of hard! It’s hard finding time to write through and post everything, being busy with work and school and life things in general. Previously on this blog I’ve been very sporadic at posting. It’s hard for me to get motivated to write at a scheduled time, I would post when the mood struck me. And while I’m not especially looking to monetize my blog or make it my living (because that shit is hard, and as much as I love traveling, I love nursing more than I love blogging), I still want to gain some followers and feel like what I post is WORTH IT, in a way.

#Maddie2017Challenge: Week 3

I’m behind on this post, because the actual act of traveling can be exhausting! This past week was one of the most amazing weeks of my life. I’ll do a more detailed write-up for my Iceland adventures, but when I left off last Monday, we had done the “Golden Circle” tourist route through Thingvellir National Park, Geysir, and Gullfoss before settling into our campsite at Skógafoss for the night.

The next day, we went to the navy D3 plane crash out in Sólheimasandur. It was kind of a walk, but luckily it was flat and easy. We explored the place, and Stephanie and I wandered out to a black sand beach. Once we were done, we went to the small town of Vik to grab some lunch/dinner, and checked out Reynisfjara, another black sand beach with tons of interesting rock formations. Our campsite for Tuesday night was out in another national park called Vatnajökull, right next to mountains and a glacier.

The next morning was quite possibly the best day of our trip. We woke up early to drive to Jökulsárlón and went on an ice cave tour. We then hung around the glacier lagoon, and walked across (well technically underneath) the bridge and got to yet another black sand beach — this one had chunks of ice from the glacier strewn about, and was the most unreal site. Well, everything in Iceland was honestly unreal. We drove back to our original campsite at Skógafoss for the night.

Our final day in Iceland, we hiked up Skógafoss (yes, that’s right, UP a waterfall), and then went another waterfall called Seljalandfoss. Normally in the summer you are able to walk behind Seljalandfoss, but it was incredibly icy and dangerous while we were there. We drove into Reykjavík and went to the top of Hallgrímskirkja, which afforded amazing views of the tiny, most northerly capital of the world. We went to an amazing dinner at Ostabúðin (literally the best of my ENTIRE life, still dreaming of the cheese plate and Arctic char), and then hit up a couple bars for our final night.

#Maddie2017Challenge: Week 2

So far, so good for 2017! I’ve been doing my best to keep up and post photos daily, even while on vacation. It’s been easy since I’ve been in service areas, but later this week we’ll be in more remote parts of Iceland, and I’m not quite sure if I’ll even have service out there. The camper van does have WiFi, so I’ve been able to keep up with posting a pic a day to Instagram at least.

I do have a few more photos pre-Iceland to show since my last update.Read More »
