Yo wtf I read 11 books this month, who am I?!? I’m at 39/50 for the year, and I read 40 books for the entirety of 2018. Wut. LOTS of great books, I’d recommend all of my 4- and 5-star reads… but I think my absolute favorite was NOS4A2! And I also crossed a few off my unread BOTM challenge.
It’s been a while!
Things have been busy around here. Lots of traveling, planning a wedding, preparing for life post-residency. Which is why I’m here! Lots of changes will be coming up, starting with our move in a few short months, and I wanted to make a conscious effort to stay better up to date with my blog. Starting with this post!
I’ll keep things short and sweet for now.

In 2018, I ended up traveling internationally to the Philippines; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Vancouver, Canada; and to Munich, Germany for Oktoberfest, plus a little side trip to Salzburg, Austria! Domestically, I made it out to Seattle, Washington; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and Portland, Oregon. I’d love to share my stories and any tips/advice for any of these locations, but I just haven’t found the motivation to sit down and write anything about it. If there’s anything in particular you’d like to know, maybe that will help me get started!

The rest of 2019 is pretty open-ended. I expect I’ll spend a lot of time adjusting to life post-residency, home ownership, decorating said home, and transitioning to a new job (which I still have yet to get hired onto…). The only other trips I have planned for this year are to Ecuador in October, and Maine in the fall.
I’m excited for this next stage of life for my husband (!!) and me! I am really going to try and make the effort to share more here, so I can always come back and re-live the memories, as well as keep my friends and family updated about our life!

I read 7 books in April (28/50 for the year!), mainly due to the fact that I spent a week laying on a beach doing basically nothing but reading and drinking for my honeymoon. I re-read a childhood fav (now an adult fav, too!), and got to a variety of genres!
Disclaimer: I finished The Dreamers on May 1, so it’s technically a May book, but I had to return it to the library so snuck it into April’s bookstack!

I’m surprised I read so many books this month, considering it was wedding month! I read 6 books (only one less than February), bringing my 2019 total to 21/50 books. Which is crazy to think I already might reach my goal!
Of note, I unintentionally only read books by FEMALE AUTHORS (well also Nick Offerman but he co-wrote it with Megan Mullaly so the point stands) in March! AND another cool experience from this month was getting to chat with Bianca Marais about Hum in one of my buddy reads!

I read 7 books this month, bringing my total for the year to 15/50. I’m reading a lot faster than I usually do, and I think listening to audiobooks has helped increase that number! But most importantly, this month I had basically ALL SOLID 4-star reads. I’m surprised I had only one “true” 5-star (BORN A CRIME!), because I’ve been on such a good book streak lately!!

The above photo is misleading, I actually read a whole 8 books this month, which was wild!! I think my favorites were The Kiss Quotient and Verity.
In case you don’t follow me on instagram and haven’t been watching my stories, I’ve been getting back into reading lately. I’m not sure what sparked it, exactly, but usually when I find a hobby or interest, I get super into it (to an obsessive degree?) for some time. However, I’ve always been a bookworm from when I was little and first starting to read, so I think this one will be here to stay.
There’s something about reading in the summer that makes it more enjoyable. During college, I’d read SO many books during semester breaks when I didn’t have any required reading for my classes. I finally got back into reading to that extent this summer. I read 5 books in July, and 6 books this August – including two of my favorite books of the entire year.
I borrow a lot of books from the library and read e-books, so I can’t do a super instagrammer picture of the pile of books I read this month. But I can still do a quick wrap-up of August!
I kinda hated this book? But I did read it all in one day, so something about it must have been thrilling enough to keep me reading it.

The epitome of an unreliable narrator, Mike’s story wasn’t really connecting with me at first. I struggled to get through the first 50ish pages, but it’s essential to get into the same mindset as him.
Not really a spoiler, as it’s mentioned in the first couple pages, but Part 2 and 3 amped up the action. The courtroom scene especially felt like something out of a Law and Order: SVU episode, except, you know, as told by the defendant/stalker instead of Olivia Benson.
I love the way the writing manipulated the truth, leaving me wondering what was truly “real” and what happened only in Mike’s mind. I’d read the e-mails and voicemails from V and think, ‘there’s not possible way he can misinterpret this,’ and yet…

So January overall did not set an ideal tone for 2018. I was working overtime (which I almost NEVER do) in order to pay off my credit card debt and build my savings back up. I was sick with what was probably the flu. I didn’t want to spend any money (see: trying to save money by working a shit-ton of overtime), so I hardly ever went out.
But I still had, overall, a good month. I started working on a great unit, where I actually got to take care of sick patients and work with an amazing staff. I went to the San Antonio Cocktail Conference for the first time with my best friend Janee, where we got drunk off whiskey and gin. Oh, and Janee came to live with me for a month which was also a lot of fun.
